Olivia Munn Is Perfect Couples' Breakout Star

Perfect Couples, the new NBC sitcom that premieres Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET, has two things going for it. One: It's part of NBC's much-hyped, three hour comedy block. It never hurts to have news stories making reference to your show alongside ratings winners like The Office and 30 Rock. And two: It's got Olivia Munn.

Though Perfect Couples has been billed as an ensemble comedy about three couples (whose relationships are in various states of disarray), Munn has already emerged as the show's breakout star. She plays Leigh, the tightly wound half of the platitude-spouting, self-help-loving couple. But she's already built an Internet fan following as a model and as the host of Attack of the Show on G4. She also recently landed a gig among the mostly-male comedians of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

In her book, "Suck It, Wonder Woman!," Munn describes herself as a Hollywood geek. Truth is, she's more like this generation's answer to Jenny McCarthy -- a goofy/sexy comedian/model. Like McCarthy, Munn has appeared on the cover of Playboy. And also like her, Munn is willing to act like a dork to get a laugh. Historically speaking, pretty-faced, Playboy-bodied women don't have to behave outrageously for attention. But like McCarthy in the '90s, Munn does it anyway.

It's earned her many male fans -- and raised some eyebrows among women. Regardless of such criticism, Munn is clearly forging ahead as both a comedian and a sex symbol. On her latest Maxim cover, timed to promote her sitcom's premiere, she appears in undies so barely there, they've ignited a debate about the line between sexy and pornographic.

Add that attention-getting media flap to the list of things Perfect Couples has going for it.
